About Our Principal
As founder and principal, Jessica R. Underwood started her career as an attorney before founding JR Capital Build in 2016 to bring forward-thinking solutions and next-generation ideas to the construction industry. Jessica is dedicated to paving the way for women and minorities in the building trades and real estate development sectors while spearheading initiatives for creating accessible housing solutions within her community. Originally from Tempe, Arizona, Jessica relocated to Washington, DC after attending law school in Chicago. Jessica has contributed her expertise as a Board Member on the Maryland Economic Development Commission (Medco) for the State of Maryland (2021-present) and is an active member of the Safety Committee of the Boys and Girls Club of Frederick County (2023-present). She has also served on the boards of the Frederick County YMCA (2017-2020), Entrepreneurly (2023-present), and the City of Frederick Historic Preservation Commission (2017-2020). When she’s not immersed in work, you’ll find her soaking up quality time with her energetic trio: Judah, Wynn, and Vida (and Lucy the dog).
Jessica has been recognized as 40 Under 40 Leading Woman by Maryland’s Daily Record and recognized as a Woman to Watch by Sass Magazine (2021, 2024).
